We finally made it to Broadway:

Trade Street in the big town. The mountains rise about two thousand feet in the background. The theatre still shows one movie a week (Does that make it America's last "uniplex?")
Lake Lanier, about a mile from the house. Rocky Ridge and Hogback Mountain, in the background, are part of the Blue Wall Nature Preserve.

Lincoln Road(!), about three miles from the house, with a view of Melrose Mountain in the distance. A favorite biking route.

Tryon is horse country. There are a number of large farms and stables in the area:

The beginning of the Saluda grade, steepest mainline railroad on the east coast, with Melrose Mountain in the background.

There are quite a few peach orchards in this area.
