The festivities began on July 4th 1869 with the opening of “Sturgeon Point” a public picnic grounds overlooking the shores of Lake Erie. A few years later a jerrybuilt, horse-powered carousel was added to begin the tradition of Lake Erie’s “Playground”. Though out the years many have traveled far and near to enjoy the pleasures this lake resort has offered.
