One of the main reasons I was drawn to U2 is not only because of the sound of their music, but because of what is behind their music. Their lyrics are very deep spiritually and investigate many questions that men have. Their personal beliefs are very close to my own. Three of the members of U2 are, as they call themselves, "Believers". Bono, the lead singer of the group, even says the fourth member is the most spiritually centered of the group. I also am a believer. At the age of eleven I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. I realized four truths that were revealed to me through the Bible and other Christians.

  1. That all men are sinners, and I am a sinner.
  2. God desires to have a personal relationship with me. But because I am a sinner, this is not possible.
  3. God sent His only son, Jesus Christ, to die for the sins of the world. Jesus' blood covers my sin.
  4. To have a personal relationship with God, I have to accept Jesus Christ into my heart.

I easily realized that I was a sinner. It is easy to see man's sinful nature when you look around at the world. I even understood why I wasn't able to have a relationship with God. As a child I had been taught about how Jesus came to Earth and died on the cross for my sins, and how, on the third day, He overcame death and rose from the grave. I let Christ into my heart and continued living my life, but it wasn't until sometime later that I realized I hadn't surrendered my life to Jesus. I had accepted Jesus as my Savior, but continued to try to live my life my way. In college, a friend showed me a diagram of a chair, or throne. In the chair was my name, and Christ was on the outside. He showed me that in order to truly surrender my life to Christ, that I would have to "relinquish" the throne of my life. At that moment, I gave Christ total control of my life.

Salvation is a free gift. There is nothing I did to earn it. It did have a price. Christ's trial and crucifixion.

The Bible says that there are only two things that will last forever. 1. The Word of God 2. The souls of men. When we die our soul will leave our earthly body and will either be sent to Heaven or Hell. The only way to be received into Heaven is through Jesus Christ. Salvation is a free gift that offers eternal life with God in Heaven. The result of not accepting Christ as your personal Savior is eternal separation from God.

God desires to have a relationship with you. Life is short. No one is guaranteed a tomorrow. If you were to die, where would you go? Have you ever wondered what the meaning of life is? Why we are here? What happens when we die? I would suggest turning to God. Have you been running from God? or as Bono says, "running away from what you don't understand." The lyric in "Mysterious Ways" is right. "If you want to kiss the sky, you'd better learn how to kneel." If you feel that you would like to accept Christ as your savior say a prayer asking Christ to come into your heart. For any questions you might have I will be glad to help with anything. This is something that could change your life for eternity.
