Performing a wetland delineation requires establishing sample plots in the field and then collecting a large number of data items in each plot. Information collected in each plot includes data on soil conditions, hydrology conditions, and the composition and dominance of plant species. Such information is first recorded on field data sheets and subsequently compiled on summary data sheets.

When considering that large delineations might involve 100 or more plots, accurately organizing and presenting the resulting volumes of data in a delineation report is a very time consuming and manpower intensive effort. For example, the list of possible plant species that might be found in a wetland exceeds 2,000.

To provide a more efficient and accurate way of managing such large volumes of data, TES has developed a wetland data analysis system. This PC computer program automates much of the data analysis, and produces report-ready printouts at the press of an on-screen icon. Furthermore, the raw data entered by the operator is incorporated into a relational database structure that allows the data to be queried and analyzed using standard database procedures. Not only does this database provide report-ready field and summary data sheets, it also helps develop report tables that summarize the characteristics of each wetland type, or present the results of the field work in any format the wetland scientist desires. This system not only helps ensure the accuracy of wetlands data, it also allows TES to prepare wetland reports in less time and at less cost to our clients.
