  • Tattnall County was created in 1801 from parts of Montgomery and Washington Counties. Georgia's 26th county was named for Josiah Tattnall, the governor who signed the legislation creating it.
  • The county has five incorporated communities including: Glennville, the most populated city in the county; Reidsville, the county seat; Collins; Cobbtown; and, Manasas. The city of Reidsville was named for Robert E. Reid, a superior court Judge in Reidsville.

  • The Georgia State Penitentiary, the state's central holding facility, is located just south of Reidsville. This is Georgia's oldest state prison, and was constructed of marble in 1936. The prison, which was designed to hold 2,000 inmates, cost $1.5 million to build.
 
 
  • Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park and Big Hammock Natural Area are located in the county. Gordonia Alatamaha State Park, originally named Reidsville State Park, was renamed for a small, rare tree discovered in 1765. It is found naturally only in the state of Georgia and is known as the "Lost Camilla."
 
 
  • Glennville hosts a Glennville Sweet Onion Festival each year in honor of the county's significant production of the world famous sweet onion. Visitors travel to Tattnall County from all across the United States to take part in this festival.
 
 
  • The Wiregrass Trail, a 70 mile historic route through southeastern Georgia, runs through Tattnall County. This scenic byway (Highway 57), in addition to providing a scenic alternative route to Georgia's Golden Isles from Atlanta and Northwest Georgia, also posseses historical, academic and ecological significance. www.wiregrasstrail.com

  • Fishing is abundant in the Ohoopee and Altamaha Rivers as well as the 12-acre recreational lake at the Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park. The park, inside the city limits of Reidsville, includes year-round camping, fishing, regulation golf, tennis, a picnic area and a playground.
