The Glennville-Tattnall Museum
The Glennville-Tattnall Museum is located on Tillman Street in Glennville and was opened in 1994. The museum is located in the former Glennville Elementary two-story school building now located in the former Glennville Elementary two-story school building now on the campus of Southeastern Technical College.

The first exhibit in the museum was a 7' x 24' oil painting by two local artists depicting Glennville homes, businesses and activities of 1915. Exhibits were added in 2004 to showcase the interior of a rural home and several of the industries which sustained early 20th century Georgia. Included in the Glennville-Tattnall Museum is an old time schoolroom complete with students' desks, teacher's desk and blackboard. Students, from various schools come from time to time and sit in the desks and learn of our heritage in Tattnall County. The history of Tattnall County from Cobbtown to Glennville is on display on five time-line panels with photographs of our county's past.

Many of our Tattnall County citizens who have not taken the opportunity to visit the museum have missed seeing the wonderful heritage of Tattnall County. You can visit the museum from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. For additional information, call Dane Bazemore at 912-654-3756 or Juliet Tarver at 912-654-2823. We encourage you to visit the museum.

Alexander Hotel Wins President's Historic Preservation Award
The citizens of Reidsville, Georgia, (population 2,300) formed Tattnall County Preservation, Inc. for the express purpose of acquiring and renovating the Alexander Hotel, circa 1892, a turn-of-the-century downtown building that had once been a center of community life, but that had fallen into disrepair through neglect.

The Alexander Hotel rehabilitation became the town's project, involving all elements of the community, and was completed using only donated labor, materials and funds. Local fundraising efforts included antique auctions, a Victorian Tea, an arts and crafts show, flea markets, and Old South Suppers on the hotel lawn. Almost all cash donations were in small amounts, the largest being $3,000. Labor was donated by the citizenry, with some people investing thousands of hours of their time.

Today the hotel is a civic center for Reidsville and Tattnall County and houses the Greater Tattnall Chamber of Commerce, the Tattnall County Economic Development Authority and the Reidsville Welcome Station. It is presently going through another renovation in 2007.

Jury comment: "This project is a superb example of how a small local community can work together to save a building important to the community's heritage. The National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 particularly stresses the importance of local historic resources, and this effort demonstrates grassroots preservation at its finest."
