Making Capos

I have made many of these capos.  I occasionally take a bunch to a festival.  Your club may wish to get together some time to make a bunch for yourself.  You need some 3/8” to ½” inch hardwood stock.  Walnut or cherry is just fine.  You need a hole cutter that will cut out approximately Ύ” buttons with a 1/8th” hole in the middle.  I glue a 1/16” piece of cork to one side of these buttons.  At your local hardware store you can get 1/8th” by 3 inch carriage bolts (the kind with the little square just inside the head) and wing nuts to fit those bolts.   Also you will need some plastic tubing that is sold there… just the right size to fit over the bolt.  Cut this tubing to about 1 Ύ” long and assemble as in the picture.  You can sand and finish them as you wish.  They work like a charm.  They are not elegant, but they are virtually fool proof, young puppies not withstanding.  All parts are locally available.  Once you get the width set with the wing nut, you just slip the capo in place, give the wing nut about a half a twist and you are done!   Hey!  They work!!!!
