123rd Med Det (DS) - at Work
#1, 2 and 3. Fresh off the airplane from Germany. This was our temporary home in the Port of Dahrahn. Big, hot warehouses that held 500 people or so. That's CPT Vergel C. Layao sitting on his cot in the right of picture # 2.
#4. Our new home in Eskan Village. The place was abandoned when we moved in. Trashed. Cleaned up nicely. Marble floors, elevators and air conditioners. Wartime!!

#5. The Great Lost Milvan (Container). Shipped by sea from Germany. Lost once it got "In Country". Found 4 months later, thank god. That baby was chock full of goodies like SGT Parker's RC race car and my Raleigh 12 speed bike.
#6, 7, 8 and 9. More views of Eskan Village in Riyadh. #8 shows a wheeled crane that tipped over while trying to move a loaded container. This was out back of our building. Stayed there a while, it did.
#10. CPL King and our own SSG Edwin Thillet.
#11. ET, Dr Miguel Zelaya and Dr Cesear Torres.
#12. ET, 1SG Johnson and the acknowledged star of the deployment... Our Leased Toyota Landcruiser.
#14. Picnic on the veranda at the barracks. Check out SGT Yvonne Johnson on the bottom right.
#15. COL Dan M. Prucha - our Commander, showing leadership skills here. Good man - candid shot here. Yes, that is a scrap of a sticky note that someone stuck on the picture while it was on my bulletin board in Riyadh. It was never pulled off and it was still there when I ran across it 10 years later.
#16. CPT McCullum assisted by PFC Raymond (OJT'ing here).
#17. SPC Liz Crawford at work in the Eskan Dental Clinic.
#18 and 19. An operatory, SPC Raymond and her front desk at the Eskan Clinic.
#20, 21 and 22. Long drive from Riyadh to the MEDSOM at Daharahn. The trip was broken in the middle of the desert by Convoy Support Center YAK. You stopped here to grab a burger, some water and use the bathroom. The 3 stooges are ET, SSG Jobe Lathan and SGT Henry M. Davion.
#23 and 24. I think this is somewhere on the Saudi base at Al Thumama. The 123rd operated a small dental clinic there for a while. That's me, SST Ruth Malone, CPT Layao and ET sittin' under the chandelier.
#25. Ariel view of our home in Germany. 67th Evacuation Hospital-Wuerzburg MEDDAC.
NOTE: If you are wondering how I was able to remember all these names from the last century, I didn't. But I did run across a floppy with a bunch of our HQ files on it and one was a unit roster. Helped a lot. Unfortunately it was a rating scheme, so it had the officers and the NCO's. Junior enlisted were not on that roster. Bummer. Found a lot of the Junior EM's later, on the unit history/assignment sheet I have here on the site. RR
