The club was founded on the principle of promoting bass fishing as a major sport as well as for recreation; to encourage our youth to participate in this great sport of fishing; and to improve our skills through fellowship and exchange of bass catching techniques and ideas.
Although there were many clubs in this area, most were interested in only winning tournaments. There was enough interest to look at forming a club in which the members wanted to have fun, enjoy the sport, and keep the costs low. We achieved that in the Public Safety Bass Club. We have 100 percent participation in our youth activities and other club functions. We sponsor a charity event in honor of a Deputy Sheriff who was killed in the line of duty, in which proceeds from the tournament go to the Kids Rodeo/Jakes Day.
We host a Fishing Rodeo/Jakes Day at the State Pond in Milledgeville. This year we had 362 kids participate in the Rodeo. This is an event the local children love to attend. As a result of this project and reaction to it, the Department of Natural Resources designated the State Pond to be used only for the children's events such as our Rodeo.
The club goals are to increase participation by area youths in our activities, conservation, and to sponsor charitable functions so that the club will be recognized for having a positive influence on the community.
