The 12th Annual Will Robinson Memorial Team Bass Tournament was hosted by the Public Safety Bass Club on April 19th, 2008 at Little River Park, Lake Sinclair.
The Public Safety Bass Club hosts the tournament annually in memory of Baldwin County Sheriff's Deputy Will Robinson who was killed in the line of duty in 1997.
Forty one teams turned out for the bass tournament last Saturday under the threat of bad weather. The rain did materialize, and was short lived as the anglers were treated to beautiful afternoon weather. The fish did not cooperate by biting.
Most of the two man teams were able to weigh five fish limits even though some of the fish were small. Ounces of weight seperated the top five teams.
Finishing in first place with a five-fish limit weighing 11.92 pounds was Chris Harris and Stewart Harris
Chris and Stewart Harris took home $1,000.00 for their first-place finish. They barely beat out the second-place team of
Mark Whidby and Danny Whidby. Mark and Danny weighed in 11.36 pounds to take home the second-place prize of $650.
Right behind those two anglers were Lance Bearden and Blake Johnsa with 111.18 pounds. Lance and Blake took home $450.00
for their third-place finish. Rounding out the top four places was Ralph Anderson and Cabox Anderson with 10.79 pounds.
Their fourth-place finish earned the pair of anglers $350. Big fish honors and $410.00 went to Buster Helton for his 5.94 pound
largemouth bass that hit a spinnerbait. Only three fish in the tournament
broke the five pound mark. Most of the fish caught in the tournament were caught in water 1-6 feet deep, and caught on spinnerbaits,
a variety of small crankbaits and a variety of plastic baits. Most of the anglers indicated they caught a lot of fish but many
of the fish were small. If you enjoy competitive fishing, pick one of the local tournaments.
