Quiver of Jasper began in the humid woods of Morehead State University in the summer of '94. Jack Justice, Mat Acra, and original skin-whipper Phil Lester deviated from a band called Buzzard Skyline to take a new route of music. These three shared common interest in a musical style that took from psychedelic music (Love, Moby Grape, Spirit, the Dead) and rock and roll/punk music (Pixies, Yo La Tengo, the Replacements). The band incorporated all this into some pretty erratic music making. For around six months, Texas native Jerome Huff played percussion in the band before departing.

In 1996 Quiver of Jasper released its first cd, a primitive yet true to the era recording named "Sleep Injury" . Graduation, jobs, and common life situations brought the three-piece to Lexington, Ky. in 1997. Around that time, the power trio decided to expand to a quartet. Jack called a high school buddy named Scott Hatfield (who just happened to live in town) to see if he was interested in joining the band. Perhaps still asleep, or perhaps being temporarily inhabited by the soul of Brian Jones, Scott agreed to join and split his time between guitar and keyboards. In 1999, Quiver of Jasper recorded "Muchacha", leaving the population of central Ky. uneasy, but curious. (This is a common effect the band has. It's like "Gee, maybe I will eat that habanero pepper.")

Eventually, Phil Lester decided to leave the band and music completely, playing his last show on April 1st 2000. Jack called his adolescent music mentor, Paul Michael Ramey, to play the drums. Mike said yes and came aboard to make the music. The band played on and new songs became the 3rd cd, "Don't Trust Fun". This recording was released in the fall of 2001.

More changes were soon in store for the band. Guitarist/Vocalist/Songwriter Bobby Chavira joined the band in late September 2001. Shortly thereafter, Scott left to start a family and to pursue other musical interests (including pickin' a mean banjo). Reduced again to a standard rock 4 piece lineup, QoJ then recorded an EP entitled "Sugar Boots". This release has received significant airplay from local radio stations, of which we are grateful.

In July 2003, original bassist Mat Acra retired from Quiver of Jasper. After a few acoustic gigs, local music wunderkind Nick Viltrakis joined to play bass guitar.

The band then continued to play regional shows and almost finish a 5th CD before Bobby Chavira returned to Texas. The remaining trio wishes him the best, and hopes he finds many new and exciting ways to showcase his extreme talent out in the Lone Star State. Stay tuned for future developments...
