Multiple Feedback from the Same Individual

Here's how multiple feedback from the same person works. There are two areas affected:

Feedback Percentage

If you have multiple transactions with an individual, your percentage will only be affected if one or both of the following events occur:

     1) You are left a positive and it is the first positive you have received from that individual.

     2) You are left a negative and it is the first negative you have received from that individual.

To summarize, only the first positive and the first negative can affect your percentage. Any future positives and negatives from that individual WILL NOT change your PERCENTAGE. Keep in mind that your % is always calculated by dividing the number of unique members who have left a positive by the sum of the unique members who have left positives and negatives.

Feedback Score

The score is handled differently than the percentage. It can alternate repeatedly if you have multiple transactions with the same individual. But never more than +1 or -1 of the score you had before dealing with them. Ebay remembers how your transactions with an individual have gone in the past. Time doesn't matter.

     1) If you have more positives than negatives from the same individual, then your score will be +1 from what it was before you ever dealt with them.

     2) If you have more negatives than positives from the same individual, then your score will be -1 from what it was before you ever dealt with them.

     3) If you have the same number of negatives and positives from the same individual, then your score will be the same as it was before you ever dealt with them.

Your score is usually the difference between positives and negatives. However, because of the way ebay handles multiple feedback from the same individual, there is the chance that this won't be so. Anytime someone has left you at least one positive and negative, your score will be out of whack for that point forward. It can happen to anybody, but usually to those members with a large amount of feedback and repeat business.

Here is an unlikely, but possible example. Ebaybuyer(3) with 100% buys ten items from Ebayseller over a period of two years. Ebayseller decides to leave feedback in the following manner:

You will notice that Ebayseller cannot cause Ebaybuyer's feedback score to go lower than (2) or higher than (4), no matter how many positives and negatives he leaves or in which order. In addition, once Ebaybuyer was given that first positive and that first negative, his feedback percentage of 80% won't be affected by any subsequent feedback left by Ebayseller.
