FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Do I have to be a resident of Georgia to be eligible for the Georgia War Veterans Home? Yes, you must be a current resident of Georgia for the past 5 years. You will be required to show proof of meeting this requirement to the Veterans Service Field Office. Other requirements for admission can be found in Field Letter 19. What is the daily cost to live at the Georgia War Veterans Home? The cost to reside at the Georgia War Veterans Home is NOT FREE. Although there is no daily fee to the veteran to live at the Georgia War Veterans Home, residents may be responsible to pay bills associated with a hospital stay, Medicare co-pays/deductibles, and other expenses outlined in Field Letter 19. Where can I get application forms? Application forms in "Adobe Acrobat" format are available (CLICK HERE) on this website or by contacting a local Veterans Service Field Office. Please contact a Veterans Service Field Office or the GWVH Admissions Coordinator for help and assistance with completing these forms. Can a "Family Member" sign the admission application forms for the Veteran? Application forms MUST be signed by the veteran applicant OR a family member who has an official, written Power of Attorney or Guardianship document from the veteran. The Power of Attorney or Guardianship document must be included with the application form IF the application forms are signed by anyone other than the veteran applicant. Can a resident of the GWVH drive and park a vehicle at the home? To ensure high quality of care and safety of everyone concerned, skilled nursing residents are not permitted to operate, park or maintain a vehicle on the grounds of the GWVH facilities. Domiciliary residents MUST be approved by the primary physician at GWVH to obtain a vehicle parking permit. This permit will allow the use and parking of one motor vehicle (no motor homes or RV's) on the premises. Domiciliary residents will be periodically evaluated to ensure they are medically able to maintain the driving/parking priviledge. Residents will be monitored for medications which may impair their ability to drive. |
