EARLY AMERICAN TIN TOLE DECORATED BREAD TRAY with profuse freehand decoration. This colorful piece has been in my personal collection since bought from the Margaret King, Corning, NY estate after her death in the early 1990s.  Margaret was a well-known dealer collector in the central NY area for years. The freehand work on this tray is more intricate than most, with vivid reds and greens on ivory. At some point in its life, a protective coating of varnish was added, and in small gold lettering on one side it is marked, probably by Margaret for her collection: "Ann Butler Before 1840".  In spite of the Butler attribution, I am thinking it probably is decoration of the North Family, Fly Creek NY circa 1820s. Measures 13" long x 7 1/2" wide x 3" high.
