In his Class of 1938 Yearbook from St. Casimirs, he is listed as Francis Anthony Dziengielewski. His class chronology lists him as being seen around coal holes. His favorite expression was "Let's go to the movies". His ambition was to be a mine operator. He was described as being shy and kidded about blushing. The class will states: Francis Dziengielewski leaves his blushes and 4 inches of his height to anyone who is very pale and short. His nickname was "Peddler". He says he was nicknamed that because he could run faster than any of his friends.

He was in Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.
