[tanka]

bergamot's bolted --
blossoms at their nadir now;
still, the last bees
are busy as candy stripers
among the pink petals

Note: Candy stripers are volunteeer nurses' aides -- so named for their striped red and white uniforms.

Richard Stevenson has two books forthcoming this fall: a memoir, Riding on a Magpie Riff, with Black Moss; and A Tidings of Magpies: Haiku, Senryu, and Tanka, with Spotted Cow in Edmonton. The repetition of the magpie in both titles is unfortunate, but the haiku collection was accepted three years ago. What are you gonna do? ;-) Richard continues to teach at Lethbridge Community College in southern Alberta.
