Although qualifying for the November election doesn’t start until April 28, Linda Hallman has announced she will be running for the Upson County Clerk of Court. The primary for the election will be July 15.

Hallman has been a long time citizen of Upson County after moving from Atlanta in 1975.

“I wanted my kids to grow up in a hometown atmosphere. I love Upson County,” Hallman said.

Hallman has worked with the Clerk’s office for about seven years doing a variety of jobs from looking up deeds to doing civil cases for citizens who want to go to court.

“I have lived here for such a long time that this is home to me. I want the best for this town, and I feel that I am the best,” Hallman said. “I get along with people well. I am also interested in history, and Upson’s deed records go back to 1825.”

When Hallman went to work with the Clerk’s Office after the Thomaston Mills closed, she found that she liked working with old records as well as making new ones. Hallman said, “It is a constant stream of information on the county. I just love it.”

If Hallman is elected, she will replace Nancy Adams, who has been Clerk of Court since 1989.

“Nancy has been the best person to work for. She treats us like family and looks after us. She will really be missed,” Hallman said.

Hallman and Jenny Sams are the only two people who have announced their candidacy, and Hallman isn’t sure if anyone else will run.

Hallman is a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. She attended Dekalb Community College, Gordon College and Flint River Technical College, where she took classes on computers, management, shorthand and business.

“I’d love for people to remember me. I’ve never done anything like this before,” Hallman said, sounding hopeful. “The staff we have now is so good. We are like a family. We work so well together.”
