Now Hear This !!

I received email from Marilyn Wilson, 8th generation Hall, seeking information about a Dr. Clark for whom her grandmother, Birdie Ann Shoopman Hall, worked from 1887-94. She wondered if that Dr. Clark from Cumberland Co., KY, later of Celina, TN was related to any of our Clark(e)s. Her father was a Navy man and I was able to provide a little insight into his exciting WWII service.

Donna S. Brown, Sgen 7, emailed a very nice note to me to give a little family information to feed my hungry computer. She is the daughter of Willie Eunice Scott Henry. She says she will try to be at the next reunion which, of course, is planned for the weekend before the 4th of July as per below. Add one more relative to the world of electronic genealogy.

Bill Scott sent a Christmas card with more than the usual greetings: "Allow me to share with you a poster…by my…granddaughter, Katie McCorkle: 1st line: I LOVE YOU, 2nd line: sketch of 3 faces, happy, deadpan & sad, 3rd line: you could be happy, sad or in the middle. Words of wisdom, perhaps divinely inspired, prom a precocious second-grader. Think about it—we have the freedom to choose…..If you feel down and don’t have a child at hand to lift your spirits, remember Katie's message and to from there with a joyful heart & quote.

Vila and George Narozonick sent a beautiful card and letter describing their travels over the year. Their activities are many and when combined with those of their children they must never get a rest. Roger all your salmon George but did you ever catch a red snapper?

Jim and Carol Shelton said a windstorm took part of their roof. (and probably gave it to their neighbors)

Allen E. Long emailed me as a result of the Scott family site asking for information on Samuel Long whose brother, John married Letitia Scott. I had to tell him I had nothing new for him but referred him to Margaret. I have his email address and will give it to anyone who can help him out. He is also on our distribution list until he tells me otherwise.

Edna P. Ward (g-g-grandniece of Perlisa Ann Holloway) gave me her new address….via email…we will connect the entire world yet…come on everyone…get aboard!!

Tom Williams, son of Nona Clark joined the email crowd…welcome aboard.

You can view photos of your ancestors at the website. Ed has placed them on the net. If you want a copy, just ask your youngest child how to do it. So, if you bring some we don’t have to the reunion we can copy them electronically without damaging your photo and make them available to the entire world. Please contribute via the web if you are not going to attend. Please share your good fortune.

Transition

Ed and Linda Hallman inform me that their daughter, Stephanie, was married 28 October 1998 at Hellen, GA. Lucky husband is Geer A. Whitney and they are living in Atlanta. ATTENTION: the first child will be named 2nd Gear with Passing, Automatic and Shiftless to follow. Oh, Ed…this will be great fun for the next 20 years…stand by for high seas and heavy rolls. Be thankful his name isn’t Shoe.

Dr. & Mrs. Hugh Clarke expected to be in their new house by the middle of December as reported to Judy McCorkle.

Your scribe started a telephone company in January and has been real busy making connections (hoho). Recent government deregulation gave us a national phone system which looks like the one in the Philippine Islands but it also gave us retirees something to keep us busy. If you think your Bell bill is confusing you ought to try buying lines from them. Worse bureaucracy than the Navy.

Taps

Carter Ruby

Jim Thompson, grandson of Edith Scott Rudy, passes word that Carter Rudy passed away 4 January 1999 in Virginia. Surviving is his son, Richard Carter Rudy; a niece, Dr. Marilyn Thompson and a nephew, James E. Thompson.

Sick Call

(Send a Note, Make a Call)

Vila Narozonick also included in her card that she did chemo and radiation treatment for cancer. Those who met her at the reunion several years ago remember her as vivacious, outgoing and interested in everything and everyone. In my opinion she has the personality and determination required to whip this and we all wish her the very best.

Russell Scott reports that our genealogist, Margaret Scott, was hospitalized in Knoxville for treatment of a stroke. Son Gary took some time off to be with her and Allen Bradshaw, your President, reports she is at home now and subsisting with a little assistance, Russell says she is walking with a cane but he stays by her side to check her balance. Margaret..we expect to see you at the reunion. That's easy for us to say since we couldn't keep her away if we tied her up.

Good news for this section. Chris McKinnon (husband of L. A. Treis) reports total remission of leukemia after a bone marrow transplant along with all the nasty side effects. Chris is a brilliant science teacher with past employment by Uncle Sam. He is also a natural athlete, in great shape, which was a major factor in his success…and don't forget positive attitude and a little help from the Force.

Old and New Business

The big news is the reunion 26 and 27 June. We are not going to the library or the senior citizen's compound. Rather we will travel a few miles out of Wartburg to Frozen Head State Park and Natural Area. It's really not much farther away than the senior citizens center with which everyone is familiar and, besides, you get to travel through Brushy Mountain State Honor Farm, former home of James Earl Ray. Traveling on TN Hwy 62, a short distance outside of Wartburg you will find Flat Fork Road (and probably a big old sign to the Park). Map is enclosed. Current plan is a big bar-b-que (no cost) on Saturday afternoon/evening with some outside local colorful entertainment. Sunday will be the traditional service at the Lancing Church (they really like us there). Sunday noon meal is TBA(Navy for TO-BE-ANNOUNCED), probably with a small charge.

We do need to know how many folks you will bring so we can plan to minimize waste (of food and money). Call me at the number below, or, better yet: President Allan Bradshaw at (423)345-6611 days or (423) 346-2664 nites (if the answering machine comes on just talk to it like it was Allen).
