Joan Clarke Harris, C5, emailed us with a quick family update. Joan is the daughter of Charles Luther Clarke and the granddaughter of Luther Benson Clarke. Joan hails from the branch that changed the spelling to insure the preacher’s checks did not get mixed up. She reports a desire to attend but will be in the land down under with her son, Christopher, on a People to People program associated with their jobs as teachers in the Houston area. Her 2nd son, George, Jr., is an attorney and 3rd son, Charles, is in real estate investment and development. Joan last attended a reunion in 1979.
Susan Bruner Davis, C5, found the web site and sent an email. Susan is the great granddaughter of Samuel Newton Clark, brother of Jason Clark. Her grandparents were Justice Samuel and Lydia Ammons Clark. Her mother was Bonnie Evelyn Clark who passed away in 1997. Susan sent me three pages of Justice Samuel Clark's descendants, which may be of interest to the Clark tree climbers. I’ll bring them to the reunion or will be glad to send them to anyone desiring. I had very little of her information. She also included a jpg photo of Justice and Lydia taken in 1912, which now resides in the marriage file of my Tree Maker and the next edition of Scott documents on CD. She reports having pictures of Amasa and Jason but has no picture of Samuel and she really wants one in addition to any information you may have on Samuel. Her email address is jnsdavis@europa.com. If anyone can help you can get her mailing address from me. Their branch made it all the way to Washington State. Welcome Aboard!! By the way… I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a picture of Amasa… have we found a pearl here? She actually has someone from South Dakota in her tree… neither of us has ever heard of the town however.
Debra Garrett-Carson, a Samuel Hall descendant, reports that she will be attending the reunion with her mother and we will make the family connection. It shouldn’t be hard since both of her parents are descended from Halls, Taylors and Garretts. Since my #4 son’s name is Garrett Taylor we ought to be able to make this connection.
Joan Harris, C5, reaffirms no attendance this year, the Australia trip still being on. She passes best regards to Hugh & Martha Clarke and to Barbara Cardwell.
We added Garry Saffell, S8, to our mailing list. He is a Wartburg resident and my second cousin.
Brian Jones C6, asked for info on the reunion, which was passed. He really wants to research his portion of the trees, see pictures, etc. So please bring that which you have as usual.
Anna Cox sends that great granddaughter (she must be lying, she’s not that old) Rachel Isom was awarded a Certificate of Achievement from Senator Bill Frist for the 6th grade essay contest. Seems her folks weren’t aware she was entered since the school sent it in without telling anyone and you know 6th graders aren’t known for reporting everything. So the parents have a certificate for an essay they have never seen. Must be better than no mail at all. Also Anna’s granddaughter, Sara Richardson, was awarded the Girl Scout “Gold Award”, the equivalent of the Boy Scouting’s “Eagle Scout”. Congratulations to all!
Ann M. Jones, S9, found me in spite of my having given the wrong suffix on my email address on the last newsletter. She figured out it was net instead of com. She has been receiving the newsletter for a time and now has a computer with which to correspond. Ann is the great granddaughter of William Russell Scott and the granddaughter of Willie Eunice Scott. Her mother is Barbara Henry Thompkins.
My email request for information for this newsletter asked for any new heifers. Some folks mention their children but Ann mentioned a real heifer. They are also having a hay shed raising… See-it pays to ask! She reports a Henry-Scott reunion to be held the second Saturday in June at Linda Bates home on Genesis Road in Lancing. If any of the Wartburg/Lancing folks are attending please let me know the details. Should you need further information call (423) 965-3284 or (423) 965-3634. There will be entertainment by singers “Committed by Faith” and “Family of Faith”. Ann filled me in on a lot of family information that I did not have.. Thanks.

Maya Nicole Canaday, born 12 March 2002, to Wendy, C6 and Roger Canaday in Memphis. Maya is 7th generation Clark(e) and the granddaughter of William and Nancy Clarke Wilkerson C5. Aunt Joan Harris reports she displaced 7 lb/15 oz with a hull length of 20.75 inches at launching.

Valeri Diden, daughter of John and Wanda Scott Diden won three academic awards and other honors at the Vermont Law School, Class of 2004. She was the valedictorian from Central High School and received her BA from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. ATTENTION RANDY TREIS: Related student lawyer in your vicinity, be nice, you may need one. Now keep your eyes open for a related doctor.
Ann Jones also reported that her sister, Donna Lynn Mason, S9, graduated from Tennessee Technological University in Cookville with a BS degree in Special Education on 11 May 2002. Congratulations!
Clayton and Garrett Treis, S9, both inducted into the Jr. National Honor Society (6th and 7th grades) and Clay traveled to Tallahassee to receive recognition for his SAT scores as part of the Duke University Talent Identification Program.
Gloria and Gary Scott, S8, send that son Arthur was elected president of next years band and also inducted into the National Honor Society (known to parents as money in the bank). Is that S/C gene pool deep or what?
Alan Bradshaw, S8, reports daughter Melanie graduated from Centre College in Danville, KY with a degree in International Studies and has gone to work for the TVA (little electric company) and daughter Stephanie finished her freshman year at the same institution. Alan pay$ the $chool and the $hool like$ him a lot. You may recall his aunt Jewell Scott Voss attended the same college.

None Reported

Hugh Clarke, II (Bo) reports finishing 7 rounds of chemotherapy to treat leukemia and says he is in remission. Super news since we have been following this for several years. He sent a very upbeat email… we like good news… keep him in your thoughts.

Remember, this is designated a major reunion this year. If you can only come once, this is the time. The dates are 22 and 23 June and it will be held at Frozen Head State Park. Travel east of Wartburg on Tennessee Highway 62 for a couple of miles till you see Flat Fork Road. There is also a sign saying Frozen Head. Turn left (right if coming out of Oak Ridge) and proceed past the Brushy Mountain Prison. Suggestion: avoid hitchhikers. The road takes you into the park. Stop at the first big building on the right and look for friendly folks. I’ll be there at a gentlemen’s hour in the morning to put up the charts and to let the boys run wild. Please bring your photos and documents just in case someone shows up with a scanner and cd burner(hint). Plan on dogs for lunch and a special evening meal. Evening meal will not exceed $5, maybe less, depending on how much we can shake out of your treasurer, Judy McCorkle. Sunday services are held at the church in Lancing and the ladies of the church have always sent us away full of fried chicken. Please return the enclosed card if you plan to attend. Electronic recipients please email Alice Melton at Amelton@highland.net and include # attending and any special needs or wants you may have. Of course you can always email me and enclose a little info on your family.

Webmaster's Footnote:
This notification is not to designed to upset or scare you, but you should be aware of the next two paragraphs, they are intended to be of some help for you and those familymembers who are new to the internet.
Bob and I both screen our incoming and outgoing email messages to eliminate computer viruses. If you do not have a virus checker program (Norton Antivirus is highly recommended as opposed to the other competitors) invest in one and buy the annual subscriptions. You will not regret it. To emphasize this point, you should know that I have received at least 20 emails in the last two months that could interrupt my use of my computer as well as physically damage my computer.
Bob and I created an email address webpage that makes it easy for you to contact other familymembers when you need to reach them quickly and inexpensively. The webpage is located at: address.htm. The first thing you will notice on the webpage is that your physical location is not given. We will never publish that sort of information on the internet. If you are uncomfortable having your email address published on the internet, then send Bob an email and tell him to drop it. Bob and I are still in a learning process and trying to determine if the email webpage is the best of all worlds. We could stand some feedback from you. Should you recieve an email from someone who will not appropriately identify themselves, do not reply or read the email, just delete it. If you receive an email from someone who got your email address from our webpages and you do not like it, forward the email to Bob or me. You would be amazed at what happens next.
Just remember that we are family and we are here to make this part of your lives fun!
