2 CONT William Jackson Routon, 63, a life-long resident of Manchester, passed 
2 CONC away Sunday after several years of declining health. He was born on 
2 CONC January 29, 1901 to Lucina Callier and Abner Jackson Routon. He was a 
2 CONC retired car inspector for the Atlantic Coastline Railroad, a member of 
2 CONC the First Baptist Church, Stephens Lodge No. 586 F. & A.M., Railway 
2 CONC Brotherhood Carmen of America, and a Shriner.

2 CONT Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church at 3:30 p.m. 
2 CONC Tuesday, Nov.10, with the pastor, Rev. W.M. O'Conner, officiating. 
2 CONC Entombment was in the City Mausoleum with Cox Funeral Home in charge of 
2 CONC the arrangements. 
2 CONT 
2 CONT Pallbearers were L.N. Eubanks, Billy Peacock, E.R. Ousley, Vines Dickens, 
2 CONC Alvin Eubanks, Frank McLaughlin, Charles Collier, Johnny Dunnivant. 
2 CONC Honorary bearers were members of the Stephens Lodge.

2 CONT One of Manchester's pioneer citizens, Abner Jackson Routon, passed away 
2 CONC Friday after a short illness while visiting his daughter, Mrs. J.A. 
2 CONC Justice, in Montgomery, Ala. He was 87 years old. 
2 CONT 
2 CONT Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist Church 
2 CONC here with Rev. E. B. Seckinger officiating, assisted by Rev. J. B. 
2 CONC Hunter, pastor. Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery with Cox Funeral Home 
2 CONC in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were J. H., 
2 CONT J. C., S.L., J. W., A.C., and A.R. Routon. 
2 CONT 
2 CONT Besides Mrs. Justice, Mr. Routon is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. 
2 CONC Ada Abercrombie, Marietta, and Mrs. Daisy Jacks, Montgomery, Ala.; five 
2 CONC sons, B.W. and W.J. Routon, Manchester; H.C. and A.J. Routon, Jr., 
2 CONC College Park, and N.C. Routon, Haddonfield, N.J.; two sisters, Mrs. Alice 
2 CONC Griffin, Crest, and Mrs. H.O. Lynch, Woodbury; 27 grandchildren and 30 
2 CONC great-grandchildren.

2 CONT Mr. Routon was born in this county where he lived all his life. He was a

2 CONT **After trip to Routon Family Reunion in June 2002 I found the cemetery! 
2 CONC It is on Wrightsville Road just outside of Manchester. Coming from 
2 CONC Manchester pass Perry St. and stay straight onto Wrightsville Rd. Pass 
2 CONC Macedonia Church. Continue to RR tracks. Just over tracks on the left is 
2 CONC the cemetery. There is a small driveway with a house / shed to the right 
2 CONC of the driveway. The cemetery is well-maintained. There is a marker in 
2 CONC the front. The cemetery is fenced partially. It seems to continue into 
2 CONC the woods beyond the fence but the graves are not marked and it's in bad 
2 CONC repair.

2 CONT Item, I give and bequeath to my loving son John Talbot, the sum of fifty

2 CONT Item, I give and bequeath to my loving son Isham Talbot the sum of fifty

2 CONT Item, I give and bequeath to my Godson, Abraham Chandler, one cow and 
2 CONC calf, one sow and piggs & one Ewe.. Likewise I give and bequeath to my
2 CONT said Godson one Certain tract or parcel of Land containing by estimation 
2 CONC four hundred acres be the same more or less Lying & being on the
2 CONT Lower side of Flat Creek and joining the line of Mr. William Arther which 
2 CONC said land & the before mentioned stock and their increase I give &
2 CONT bequeath to him and his heirs forever.

2 CONT Item, I give & bequeath unto Daniel Rains the sum of Five Pounds Current

2 CONT Item, my Will and Desire is that in order to discharge my debts and 
2 CONC Legacies before mentioned that my Executors Hereafter Named do sell and
2 CONT dispose of all my estate both Real and Personal and that after the said 
2 CONC Debts and Legacies are paid then the remainder of the Money received by

2 CONT sale of the said Estate be Equally Divided Between my loving wife, Jane 
2 CONC Talbot, my sons, Charles Talbot, Matthew Talbot, James Talbot, John
2 CONT Talbot, Isham Talbot, and my daughter Martha Arthur. I give and bequeath 
2 CONC to my son Charles Talbot my Great Bible, Likewise, then I appoint my
2 CONT sons Charles Talbot & John Talbot Whole and sole Executors of this my 
2 CONC last will and Testament and do revoke all former wills by me made
