Ohio Open Rocket Tournament
E SuperRoc Duration
The goal of the super-roc duration event is to achieve the greatest duration
possible with the longest rocket possible without impairing (i.e. crimping, bending, folding, etc.) the structural integrity of the rocket.
At the Ohio Open Rocket Tournament, contestants must use NAR contest-certified
E motors. Currently, the only contest-certified motors available are the Estes E9s. The E SRD event is rarely (if ever) flown, hence, this event is one unexplored area in rocketry. It is truly the wildcard event at OORT. Here are a few more tips to help first-time fliers:
- Entries with bodies or significant structural parts made from hard or potentially unsafe material (e.g., hardwood doweling or fiberglass shaft) shall not be allowed. This is a frequently misunderstood rule, but if you stick to cardboard, paper, and balsa, you should be all right.
- The minimum length entry for this event is 175 centimeters. The maximum length entry is 350 centimeters. An E9-powered Estes Mean Machine would be a qualifiable entry. Put a big parachute in a Mean Machine, and you are in the game!
- Put your NAR number on your model.
- In any event, it is always the flier's responsibility (not the contest officials') to make sure that a return has been recorded. Learn the habit of returning your model to the rangehead after each flight, whether you need a return or not.
More detailed rules for the NAR streamer duration event are available on the
online NAR Pink Book.
