Apollo Spring Church Sportsmen Association Inc.

This history is compiled from the memory of Emerson Townsend, Blair McCormick and Don Rosenstil

The club was started in 1934 at the old grange Hall in Spring Church. By 1948 Apollo Community Sportsmen's Club and Spring Church Sportsmen's Club merged to form the Apollo Spring Church Sportsmen's Club, it meet in Apollo on First Street. By 1951, the club moved to Sportsman's road at the now Penn Needle Art Plant. The club house that was built there is 1950-51 is still standing. Our current location was bought in 1958; the Bob Scout building was the clubhouse at that time. By 1961-62 a new clubhouse was erected. In 1976 just before the large mortgage burning party the building burned to the ground. It was re-built in 1977 and is now our current club-house. The 18 acre lake was built in 1965, spearheading that project were Gene Barclay and Matt Schultz.

Through all the years the club has been very interested in Archery and Rifling, even today there still exists a 22 rifle league and an archery league at the club. We also sponsor a Boy Scout Troup and a Cub Scout Troop. the lake has attracted many members to the club as well. We are currently in the process of of adding new things to the club. We now have a electric trap ready to go, that is when a committee is formed to run it. We have re-vamped the pistol range to be in the latest compliance with the NRA. Our rifle range will be next on the list to be up-dated to the NRA compliance. We have placed a handicapped fishing platform as well as a floating dock to aid in using the lake. Overall, the Apollo Spring Church Sportsmen's Club continues to grow, the biggest problem in growth is faithful members.
