Text Box: What is a Retreat?

A retreat is a refreshing experience of withdrawing to a quiet, comfortable place,
alone or sometimes with friends, to step aside from everyday concerns, relax, take
a fresh look at life, sort things out, and care for your soul. The experience can be
brief or extended and is reflective and spiritual. Different kinds of retreats are
appropriate depending on the retreatant’s personal life journey.
Servant Song offers a variety of retreats for both individuals and groups.

Types of Retreats We Offer...

Guided group retreats offer small groups an opportunity to come together with a retreat director in an extended group spiritual direction experience.  Normally about 42 hours long, these retreats are most popular on weekends.

Guided days of prayer/reflection provide individuals, assisted by a retreat director, an opportunity to come apart for up to 24 hours  of prayer and quiet reflection/meditation.

Directed retreats according to the method of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola are offered for 3, 5, or 7 days and can be scheduled at anytime throughout the year. Ignatian Spirituality in Everyday Life - Annotation 19 is also offered year-round.

Preached/conference-type retreats are presented around a central theme on some aspect of spirituality. Time is allotted for prayer and reflection.  The theme can be tailored to fit the specific needs of a group.

•  Private retreats provide an individual with an opportunity to enter into a time of intense silence to seek God’s direction in solitude.

•  Day breaks are available if you need  "something" but find it difficult to get away overnight or for more than a day. A guided  day of reflection will refresh your spirit and provide rest for your soul.  These "day breaks" can be scheduled  any day of the week.  The offering is $20 (includes lunch) or  $15 (no lunch).   Call for date availability.

What is a Retreat House?

A retreat house is a spirituality center presented in a homelike atmosphere marked by hospitality,

simplicity, and quiet.  It provides a comfortable space where individuals and small groups can “retreat”

from their busy work-a-day lives for a few hours, a day, a  weekend, or 5 – 7 days.

Through the dynamics of private and group prayer, various workshops, and individual and group

spiritual direction, visitors will experience spiritual enrichment and refreshment.

What is Spiritual Direction?

A simple definition, according to David A. Rosage:

“Spiritual direction is a process in which one person (directee) meets regularly with a competent person (director) in order to seek some guidance, reassurance, discernment, and affirmation in developing a deeper, richer relationship with the Lord....It is a process in which the director helps the directee become more alert to the presence and prompting of the Holy Spirit in his or her life...discern more clearly where the Lord is leading.”
